I was going to post this on the "Trains" Forum, but there's too many grumpy old men over there right now. I think this is a better venue anyway, since like it or not, the train's historic and, for lack of a better term, "classic." Besides, all the cool people on the "Trains" Forum that might be interested come here anyway!
Another home run for Doctor Mark Felton's YouTube channel! Twelve minutes of good World War Two history.

Difficult to believe... while slaughter is going on.
I'm staying off Trains for a while. Classic is fine.

Trains, trains, wonderful trains. The more you get, the more you toot!

You ain't kidding! Hermann was an O-gauger we'd rather not have had in the hobby. Maerklin remembers him as a customer they'd have rather not had, but to their credit they won't hide the fact he did buy a lot of their trains.

It happened. No point in hiding it. Remarkable that they were able to survive the war's bitter end and subsequent German economic collapse.
Another German manufacturer, Bing (owned by a Jewish family), did not survive the Nazi period:

I've learned a lot from Dr. Felton over the last month. His videos are a great way to make the time pass in quarantine.
I make at least one grumpy young man over here.

You, young sir, are more than welcome. Just leave the "grumpy" elsewhere. This is a learning and joy of same site.
And isn't Dr. Felton great? He finds the stories and tells the stories, no posturing, no editorializing, and no politics! His "students" like us can draw their own conclusions.
And he's got a sense of humor! Have you watched his "Frankentiger" video? Had me in stitches!
Thanks for the Bing link! They made some beautiful stuff, didn't they?
I did some checking on Bing. They went out of business due to the world-wide economic depression that began in 1929, and sold some of their tooling to another toy train maker named Bub. The Bing family did see which way the wind was blowing in 1933 however and got the hell out of Germany, moving to Britain.

Imagine how our present time will appear to historians with no postruing, no editorializing and no politics 70 years+ from today.
Never too old to have a happy childhood!

You know Balt, we can't begin to imagine. Things change in ways we can never expect.
