The 'waterline model' prop of the GS4 used in the movie was recently sold (November 2019) -- for $130! -- to a 22-year-old college student. There was a story about it in Newswire but Brian never 'cleared' it to the Forums and it remains subscribers-only. (Perhaps a subscriber can find and paraphrase it...)

Do you mean this model on the cake?

I found the story. Briefly, the prop was purchased by 22 year old student Anthony Williams for $130. There seemed to be little interest in it so Anthony figured why not try to buy it himself if he could get it cheap enough. Score!
Anthony plans on exhibiting the prop at the Northern California Museum of Transportation in Oroville where he's a volunteer. The locomotive portion is deteriorated but the tender portion is still in good shape. The whole prop sat in a warehouse for 30-plus years.
Here's the link to the story.

Hey! Waddaya know? The link worked!
I guess Burt and Kirk are looking down on me and helping along on this one!
Thanks gentlemen!
Interesting story. At least the smokebox door is still intact...
Oh dear.. mess.
Well it's better value than a banana duct taped to a wall.

Dear Miningman,
You forgot to mention that 18,000-word essay about that banana-on-the-wall thing.

Uh, yeah, I'm kind of drawing a blank on that "...banana duct-taped to the wall..." thing too, unless it's the equivalent of the old Newfoundland saying "Better than a slap in the face with a wet codfish!"
Back to that prop Daylight. Quite honestly I'm surprised it's still around, when "Tough Guys" was produced Hollywood had gone beyond warehousing old props just in case they ever needed something like it again, especially a prop that big.

Canadian art snobbery.
Last year some guy duct-taped a banana to a wall, called it performance art, and put a pricetag of $120,000 on it. People from Miami then bought it...
EDIT - and apparently untaped the banana and ate it!

That wasn't the most "extreme" case I suppose...

What's that supposed to be, the painted equivalent of John Cage's 4'33" of silence? (Or 'ceci n'est pas une fenêtre'?)
It actually works on that level. But so would my 'exhibition' in the Seventies of paintings like "black bear in deep-shaft coal mine at midnight', 'brown bear in Dust Bowl windstorm', and 'polar bear in blizzard in Arctic summer' ... if you were to carefully capture the course of 'audience response' to the things, and then their growing 'epiphanies' as they grasped the full impact of what was being done to them...
" A fool and his money are soon parted"
"There's a sucker born every minute"
"Stupid is as stupid does"
I'm sure Shakespeare has one somewhere in all his works.
What about the painting that immediately fed itself into a paper shredder after somebody bought it?
Trains, trains, wonderful trains. The more you get, the more you toot!

You ain't kiddin! My thoughts exactly!
I'd add the Hans Christian Andersen story about "The Emperor's New Clothes." A lot of people know the story but don't get the message. Hoo boy.
Make the kid who bought the "Daylight" prop for $130 look like an absolute genius! In fact, I think he is!

Hmmmm, maybe if enough Brits sound off about what rubbish a lot of modern art is the "intelligentsia" on this side of the pond will wise up. I don't know about other places but most American eggheads seem to be Anglomaniacs as well. Must come with the territory.
