As far as I'm aware, ATSF never ran any Chicago suburban trains, steam or diesel.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

Santa Fe's "suburban" territory between Chicago and Joliet had stations at

12.8 McCook

17.4 Willow Springs

25.1 Lemont

29.3 Romeo

32.7 Lockport

37.5 Joliet

Joliet was served by Alton/GM&O and Rock Island.  Most ATSF trains ran non-stop between Dearborn Station and Joliet.  A few made flag stops - the Grand Canyon until discontinued in 1971.  All of the trains were long-distance, few ever ran in convenient commuter slots.  Until recently the territory between Chicago and Joliet on the ex-Santa Fe line was about as sparsely populated as anwhere in Chicagoland.

The AT&SF closely paralleled the Alton so there was little need for duplicating local service.
