I am introducing my grandson to S Scale trains and need some help with couplers and trucks. Any suggestions as to where I can purchase parts?

[#welcome] to the forum.
This site has the most S information: http://www.trainweb.org/crocon/sscale.html
This links page on the NASG site http://www.nasg.org/links.html includes some mail order sites. I buy a lot of my S scale including couplers and trucks at the Great Scale Model Train Show which happens four times a year in Timonium MD. It's no longer just scale but includes American Flyer and Lionel. Greenberg train shows in my area (Northern Virginia) include dealers in American Flyer. You don't say whether you are scale or Hirail. Classic Toy Trains is for American Flyer and Model Railroader Forum - General Discussion is for the scale side.
Enjoy
