Great Northern Steam to Portland

How did Great Northern send their steam locomotives to Portland. Did they travel via Cascade Tunnel or on the Spokane.Portland.and Seattle main line to Portland.

GN's line into Portland came down from Seattle, mostly shared with NP. GN, NP and UP operated Seattle-Portland passenger trains as a pool, cross-honoring tickets.  In some cases through cars went north on one railroad and south on another.  SP&S leased various GN steam from time to time, but GN doesn't seem to have used it as a ferry route.
