There was a story in the "Trains of the Seventies" issue about one of the first hot intermodal trains in the nation. It was called the "Falcon" and run by C&NW. C&NW was later merged into UP. My question is "When did the C&NW/UP drop the Falcon name?"
Chicago and North Western Historical Society published an article about the Falcon Service in the spring 2002 issue that probably has what you're looking for. From what I remember UP stopped using the name soon after the C&NW merger, though the service itself continued to operate unchanged for some time.

The Falcon name may be gone, but along the exCNW main the crews still refer to the hot intermodals (Z trains) has "Birds."
