My father said that when he was a child his family would go to Manasquan and Ocean City, on the Jersey Shore, for summer vacation, starting in 1961.  He can't remember anything but E units on the trains he saw, probably E7s (he remembered the 'passenger' pilot for some reason) and only one per train.  And he knew to be looking for Baldwins after 1962, after he started reading Trains Magazine...

He did see one E7 in the enginehouse near the Perth Amboy engine-change point very late, in the '70s.  I believe this has been discussed on some of the boards.

Mark 1 Video had a fascinating video about twenty or so years ago concerning the New York and Long Branch.  It covered the 'road from the immediate post-war days up to 1989, and showed what a fascinating operation it was, if for no other reason than the NY & LB was the "last stand" for so many steam and diesel types.

I don't know if the video's still available.  I'm not sure if Mark 1 is even in business anymore, but it's a good video to grab if you see it.

Last BP20 I saw was at Kearny engine house in late Sept., 1965. She was filthy dirty, and no doubt on her last legs. For a short while PRR tried one of their RSD7 Alcos on the NY&LB, but this was before my time in Jersey - 1957 or so.
