Hassayampa Flyer Clarification
Posted by Sawtooth500 on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 5:19 AM
The Wikipedia article for Phoenix Union Station cites the Hassayampa flyer as traveling from Phoenix to Williams AZ. Prior to the construction of the Crookton Cutoff however, the Peavine joined the Transcon at Ash Fork, not Williams. Since the Hassayampa Flyer was meant as a connector with trains on the Transcon, pre-Crookton Cutoff did it only go to Ash Fork or did it still make it all the way to Williams?

Sawtooth I don't know the answer to your question. Someone with some old Santa Fe ETTs or PTTs will have to chime in here. But Ash Fork was the low point between two grades before the cutoff was built. It doesn't make sense to me to take an extra passenger train up the Johnson Canyon Grade just to get to Williams.

Ash Fork was the termination point prior to December 19, 1960 when the TRANSCON connection was put in service via the new alignment.

Then the connection was at Williams Jct. which was about three miles east of Williams. The relocated TRANSCON did not go through Williams.
