Hi all, my father in law was talking about how he used to watch loads of tanks on flat cars from some proving grounds near Flint MI from his bedroom window when he was a teenager and how much he would like a few pics of it as a memento, these would have been heading off to the Korean war, I have tried numerous differnt search terms on the computer and i got nothin', well at least nothing that matches what he wants, does anyone have any thoughts on this as to what to try or where i may find some? any help would be great, thanks for reading this.
Chuck & Heather.
You could try local historical societies. If you know where the area was maybe they might have some pics.Did you try the US Army? They might have something.
Which railroad was it? Maybe one of their members has something. If it was a regular move ( sounds like it) some one somewhere I would think would have it. Never gie up!
Try some yard sales even. I have found odd ball train stuff at houses where there was never a railroader or railfan.
Yes we are on time but this is yesterdays train
AAR had a publicity shot, names and lettering airbrushed out, of tanks on flat...shows up in books everyonce in a while...you might want to check with them or, as stated above, your local library or historical society if you are sure the locations are right. Also go through some of the post WWII generic rail histories, the photo might be there.
RIDEWITHMEHENRY is the name for our almost monthly day of riding trains and transit in either the NYCity or Philadelphia areas including all commuter lines, Amtrak, subways, light rail and trolleys, bus and ferries when warranted. No fees, just let us know you want to join the ride and pay your fares. Ask to be on our email list or find us on FB as RIDEWITHMEHENRY (all caps) to get descriptions of each outing.
Try a search under Army Transportation Corp, with any luck you'll find what your looking for. I once had a training film on how to load, secure and guard such movements from the WWII period.

Amazing at how few people here have searched the internet before:
Search Google's Life magazine photo collection for "tank plant": http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=tank+plant+source:life&sa=N&start=0&ndsp=21
Same site, search for "tanks": http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&sa=1&q=tanks+source%3Alife&aq=f&oq=

There are probably others at the Library of Congress, but I don' thave time to search for you:

Aberdeen Proving Grounds DOES have some photos you're looking for, but you'll need a day pass and a researcher's pass to access the collection:

Hope this helps!

Nice photos, but they're not Korean War. Heck, they're not even WWII: they're from the 1940 Louisiana Maneuvers. Thanks for the link though!
Scanning the photos listed. When I expanded one. There in the background was a man standing on top of a tank turret. He was giving hand signals.
Reminded me of movies of a man runnung on top of box car as they sped along.
