NJIPMS Invites All Model Rairoaders to our 2 Contests in 2009 - MosquitoCon April 4 and JerseyCon October 16-17 2009

OK - I know what you're thinking - Why would model railroaders be interested in attending a model convention that seems to be mostly plastic airplanes, ships, miltary vehicles and cars. I'm glad you asked that question. The answer is simple

  • Competition - Our shows have several categories in which model railroaders can complete:
  • Miscellaneous - Perfect for scratchbuilt engines, custom-finished railroad cars and anything else that does not fit into the other categories
  • Dioramas and Vignettes - While you can't bring your whole trainboard to our show, you could bring a diorama with buildings, figures, etc.
  • 4 categories for Civilian Vehicles for custom-built autos, trucks and motorcycles
  • 2 categories for custom-finished figures
  • Cross-Fertilization - When I was growing up as a kid in the 1950's, I built all types of models and was into model railroading, as well. I still have my O Gauge Lionels and introduced my grandchildren to model railroading by teaching them how to run the trains under the Christmas tree. Both types of hobbies use the exact same modeling skills. Model railroaders can learn a lot of new techniques and tricks of the trade from plastic kit hobbyists; and the converse is just as true. I use model railroading parts for my plastic models and dioramas all the time. Be the first kid (including large adult variety) on your block to wow your fellow model railroaders with a hobby product, or kit, that was heretofore unknown to model railroaders, but familiar to plastic kit hobbyists. Don't miss an opportunity to talk to the modelers who enter and visit the show - they'll be happy to share techniques!
  • See how the other half lives - Without a doubt, model railroad enthusiasts will really get a kick out the quality of work on the display tables. We usually average about 4-500 models in competition and there will be something for everyone to appreciate. Even if you do not compete, we have a discounted visitors-only entry fee.
  • All hobbyists who ever attended a show put on by New Jersey IPMS know how well run our shows are and what a great time is had by all. The Contest Committee has some great plans and special events planned.
  • MosquitoCon features great hot food on site - all out-of-towners should try a taylor ham and egg on a hard roll for the finest in Jersey diner breakfast cuisine.
  • Bring your Kids - We'll have a Make N Take for junior modelers the day of the show - always a big hit with the kids and makes for a great bonding experience between fathers and sons or daughters.
  • Jerseycon plans include a great hospitality suite with proper alcoholic lubrication - probably Friday night.
  • At JerseyCon they'll be seminars and the show location is close to the Battleship New Jersey Museum and the USS Olympia, just across the Delaware River - so you might want to think about visting them the next day - on Sunday.
  • Vendors - Our shows have the some best vendors dedicated to plastic modeling - this is your chance to find new items not typically used in model railroading.
