S & L ??
Posted by trainbrain on Saturday, September 13, 2008 2:00 PM

I have a hopper car lettered for The S & L.  I figured this forum would know what it stands for.  The car was a Weaver car made for the Lionel Collectors of CANADA.  That might be a clue, eh!

Thanks in advance for the info!

Only by the grace of God go I.

A perusal of a 1916 Official Guide of the Railways and also a 1949 copy of the Official Railway Equipment Register found no S&L railroad nor S&L reporting marks.

A Google search found a 2002 railroad

with reporting marks S&L: The Sidney & Lowe Railroad, but I doubt this would be found on a Lionel Car.

There was a Sidney & Louisbourg in Canada (Nova Scotia?). I think they served coal mines and/or a steel mill. Seem to recall them using steam engines after most other roads had retired them. Hope I got this right.

     EDIT: Well, almost right.
