Buy a real car train
Posted by bruno on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 7:34 AM

I am French (I hope it's the good forum) and I would like to buy reals cars of the train of durango.
The searches by internet are difficult.

Would have you secondhand goods dealers' addresses specialized in the sales of old trains.

 Excuse I for my American

 Thank you

You would have to spend millions.  The remaining authentic D&RGW passenger cars are needed for the tourist trains the Durango and Silverton and the Cumbres and Toltec operate.   If you offered each operator a million dollars for one of these cars, they might be willing to part with one, but it might require ten million dollars.   I am not kidding, either.   These are priceless artifacts and you might as well try to buy Queen Elizabeth's Crown Jewels.   The frieght cars are only slightly less valuable as equipment to make authentic looking freight trains for the pleasure of thousands of railfans and general photographers interested in USA history.

Forget it.   Go to the Little Yellow Train, the Pyrannees Metro, and see how far you get.  Or possibly the Ratian Railway in Switzerland.   Or what is the remaining steam French narrow gauge operation that connects with old Lyon - Marseilles main line (not the high speed line)?  The Viverese?   Will they sell you a railcar?    Probally also a million Francs.

You might start by telephoning or e-mailing this company:

As for cost, on one car, you can spend anything from $3,000 (USD) for a beat-up boxcar to $500,000 (USD) for a very nice private passenger car.

But he says he wants the "train of Durango."   But maybe he will settle for another train.

I think he may be looking for models of the Durango & Southern equipment. If so the Model Railroader forum would be the place to start his search.
