Photos from a recent drive along the old SRR Murphy (N.C.) Branch, now owned by Smokey Mountain Railroad. The SMRR Yard Manager was kind enough to allow us to explore and photograph the yard.

I, too, would live to hear about current operations.  My N.C. relatives keep urging the place on me, knowing that I am a railfan, but anything they "know" is antiquated and second-handed. -a.s.

Al,

When I was there, the steam loco was running. It was used on the shorter trips. We took a long one behind Diesels. Some nice scenery, some boring scenery.Nothing spectacular but it was interesting and we did enjoy it.

The model railroad and museum is very nice.

Take the trip if you are in the area.

Have fun.

Not right in the area, but having been to the NC. Transportation Museum in Spencer, and to Tweetsie (!), this is the next logical step.  Thanks for the info. - al
