METROLINER
Posted by al-in-chgo on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 5:47 PM

I know PRR had occasion to test the Metroliner, but was the company able to operate the Metroliner before it merged into Penn Central on February 1, 1968?

From what I remember of the TRAINS article, PRR did print timetables for the initial service, but the initial service was Penn Central.

Agree with Dave, that while a lot of the pre-revenue testing was done under PRR, the first day of revenue ops took place after the PC merger.  Art

The original start date was going to be sometime in the Fall of 1967, but due to delays caused by all sorts of technical problems, the first revenue runs (one round trip daily) didn't begin until January 20, 1969.
The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

In the lastest issue of  TRP  The Rail Press there is an article on the Northeast Corridor I was in Aberdeen Maryland assigned to Aberdeen Proving Grounds and would spend time at the station just to watch Amraks parade The Metrolimers and the big GGs doing what God had intended. For a kid from Nebraska it was great.   Larry

Being fortune to ride the Metroliners on numerous occasions I only had one complaint. When they were running and speed and you went into the bathrooms they were the noisiest I was ever in. Passengers did not linger which was a good thing. It was just something about those cars as the Amfleet cars did not have this same problem that was never corrected as far as I know on the Metroliners. Even the car attendants were well aware of the problem when I spoke to them about it.
