Anyone make reprints of WWII Era Railroad Magazine Ads?
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, February 04, 2004 8:41 AM
Does anyone know of a company that sells reprints of Railroad magazine ads of the 1940's? I am especially interested in the World War II ads, such as those featured in Classic Trains a couple years ago.

Thanks,
Mike

Why settle for reprints when you can get the real thing?

Many companies ran ads in Life magazine. It's amazing how often you can find WWII era issues at yard sales, used book places, etc.

Immediate postwar National Geographics are also great sources for ads.

That's where I started my ongoing ad collection. The highlight was rescuing a bunch of EMD diesel color cards from a dumpster at a library. I found out from the reference librarian that thry were cleaning out old files and she remembered seeing some "old railroad stuff..."

Hope this helps

Don't forget train shows. I'm sorry to say the Great American Train Show was surpisingly disappointing, but the vendors had lots of neat junk! Usually there's always someone trying to sell off all their old issues of Trains or MR or whatever. It doesn't have to be a Great American Train Show but any train show.
