Posted by cnwfan51 on Saturday, January 19, 2008 6:30 AM
I was looking thru one of my books on the Pennsy and there was a picture of a commuter train just out side Chicago taken during WW2  The cation read that  the railroad had converted a number of box cars into commuter cars my question is  How many were converted and for how long did they last?   Thanks Larry

My mother told me about riding in those cars in WW2.  She was in the Navy, stationed in Washington DC and rode the PRR to NY Penn Station to go home on weekends.  All I know is they had porthole windows and wooden bench seats, and were very common.  Try the "Keystone Crossings" website, for more info.

I think the recent Kalmbach "World War Two" special edition had a picture of the interior of one of these?? I know I've seen one recently somewhere....??
