As most of you have probably heard by now, the East Broad Top Railroad in central Pennsylvania is not operating steam excursions this year, the first time since 1960. However, the owner, Joe Kovalchick, has requested that the FEBT Restoration Crews continue their work sessions as scheduled this year. He has gone so far as to provide a major part of the funding to hire professionals to straighten the Blacksmith Shop building.
I have been posting regular photo updates on Facebook since 2010 of our ongoing work, and that link is available here for anyone interested:
That is a BIG relief for me. Great to hear that restoration work is still in progress.
The Lehigh Valley Railroad, the Route of the Black Diamond Express, John Wilkes and Maple Leaf.
-Jake, modeling the Barclay, Towanda & Susquehanna.
Album has been updated with some pictures from the August 4 & 5 work weekend.
....Tom, a great group of photos to show so many views of repair work being done. I had no knowledge any repairs were in process at the facilities. Great to hear it is...! {Just noted the headline of the thread}.
I sure wish a sound system of funding the operation would be found somehow.
I'm a former resident of Pennsylvania...in {Somerset Co.}.
And...it must have been right about 1960 when I had my parents and wife there and we rode the train. In that Presidential car with the Wicker chairs.....Even have some photos around here from that visit.

Album has been updated from the 27 - 28 August work session.
Album has been updated from the 22-23 September Work Weekend.
BIG ACCOMPLISHMENT: The temporary floor installed to replace the Boiler House roof and the cribbing installed in the 80's by the Park Service have both been completely removed. Visitors now have a clear view of the Shop Steam Engine and Water Pump that were covered by this cribbing to support the failed main beam (replaced several years ago). Pictures included.
Things seem to be looking good! Keep it up!
