Hooking Airbrush to Compressor
Posted by Trainsk8 on Monday, December 21, 2009 3:30 PM

i'm getting an airbrush for christmas, but i'm not sure if the hose will connect to my air compressor.  The air compressor is a Bosch and i use it for nail guns and stuff like that. but will my airbrush connect to it? or would i have to get some kind of adapter. i think the compressor has like a 3/4" connecter. the airbrush im getting is Paasche VL series dual action airbrush.

The few air brushes I have bought came with the brass adapter needed to hook the small air hose to my air compresser.

As I remember my Testor's Aztec airbrush came with a plastic adapter to mate it to a standard compressor air hose.

If the airbrush does not come with the adapter, Harbor Freight has a nice braided hose with the adapter. You should also get a dryer/regulator while you are there. The regulator will allow you to fine tune the pressure for the air brush. I keep my compressor in the shop with the door closed and run a regular hose to the regulator and then the smaller braided hose to the air brush. It works great and I do not have to deal with the compressor cycling next to me.

if you use the compressor for nail guns i assume you have a quick disconnect at the end of the hose you have now...  I got from HomeDepot another disconnect and a brass fitting with threads on both ends than allowed me to connect the hose/brass connector that comes with the airbrush to the new disconnect, and that allows me to just connect to the airhose from the compressor...  One thing though you need the air brush connected to the hose  before you connect to the compressor to stop the air from  coming out.. Also would suggest a water filter that is in line with the brush.compressor.. A good idea with the nailer anyway

Like the others have said.  Go to Home Depot or Harbor Freight and get a male 1/4" threaded end quick connector.  You're airbrush hose should be 1/4" female.

Plug n Play.

Depot over Harbor.  Even though this is not rocket science, the quality is better - things like the threads on the fitting actually mating properly with your hose's fitting.  Nothing against the Pacific rim producers, but at their worker's level of wage, QC is not foremost on any given day's to do list.

Trains. Cooking. Cycling. So many choices but so little time.

do,not forget the separate regulator! I think that you need a 1/4 or 1/8 adapter?

Correct. Paasch hoses have a 1/4 female pipe thread connector on one end. (standard male quick connect is what you want.)

Here is how I hook up my airbrush. The orange hose is from my shop compressor, it hooks into a moisture trap / regulator and the the blue hose attaches directly to my  airbrush. Works great and all the fittings are standard stuff.

I checked for adapters, fittings, etc, at Home Depot with no luck.  Found this website and ordered a regulator with water trap and a new braided hose fro my Badger airbrush to use with my Craftsman compressor.

It appears they have just about everything you would need for any airbrushing.

I like your setup.  Unfortunately, I bought an airbrush compressor before doing a lot of

research.  This is way better.  I will be returning the compressor today!
