Model Railroad Show La Crosse WI
Posted by BNSF Fan41 on Thursday, January 29, 2009 1:53 PM

Has anybody ever been to the Great-Tri State Rail Sail in La Crosse, WI. I live about 2 hrs from there and was wondering if it is worth the drive? If someone has been there can you tell me if they have layouts on display or is it just a swap meet?

Never been there, but read about it in the LaX Tribune and it seems good.  If it's not, LaX is pretty amazing anyway.

BTW, if you go, you can check out the former LaX and SEastern ROW, the former branch of the MILW Road that I follow.

The show has been around for years.  It is NOT a train show with layouts/displays - Just individuals/dealers selling model railroad stuff.  It starts about 9 AM and runs to 2 PM on Saturday.  It has lots of stuff(bring your wallet).

The La Crosse & Three Rivers Show is later in March.  It is a 'train show' with displays/dealers/layouts.  Both events are currently held in the La Crosse Center.  The La Crosse & Three Rivers show is a two day event on March 21-22.

I am not sure where you are in relation to La Crosse, but the 'Mad City' Train show in Madison is a very large show and will be held on Feb 21-22 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.  Another very good show - Not as large as Trainfest in Milwaukee, but alot of the same dealers are there.

It is a swap meet. If you want to view train layout, wait until March, and they will have a show or, travel to Madison where there is more to view. Madison show charges for parking plus a fee to get into show.
